Enjoy Your Own Historic Expedition
The area around Hamilton Town House Inn in Hamilton, Montana--the Bitterroot Valley--is known for its sweeping panoramas and majestic mountain views. The famous Lewis and Clark expedition passed through this area that lies between the Bitterroot and Sapphire mountain ranges--all a great place for an historic ride of your own...our Route Number Two from Missoula to Swan River Valley.
Missoula to Swan River Valley
Start by heading east from Missoula on I-90. Take the Bonner exit and head east on State Route 200. Continue on route 200 east/north through Bonner until you get to Clearwater Junction about 40 miles away. Turn left onto HWY 83 North. Follow this road past Salmon and Seeley Lakes and you will come to the town of Swan Lake. Ride another 17 miles and you will be in Bigfork, at the northern end of Flathead Lake. From Bigfork head south on HWY 35, approximately 50 miles to Polson. HWY 35 is a two-lane highway that winds around Flathead Lake. At the south end of the lake, you will arrive in Polson. Then head south on HWY 93 towards Missoula. This will take you through the Mission Valley. Continue following HWY 93 south to Ravalli, continuing on HWY 93/MT 200 to Missoula.
